Context: The projected costs of managing CKD and associated renal replacement therapy [RRT] are enormous and, with population ageing, present a major challenge to Australia’s health care system. The health economics research platform will draw on the CRE’s expertise and resources to quantitate those costs and create state-of-the-art models of alternative patterns of resource use associated with different ways of managing CKD.  This will include novel work on costing primary care vs renal service streams, cost-effectiveness of advanced care planning strategies and expanded use of RSC pathways.
