aCQuiRE Study Update - April 2018

The aCQuiRE Study received multi-site approval from Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital’s (RBWH) Health Research Ethics Committee in April 2017.

RBWH, Cairns and Logan Hospitals have received Governance approval and have commenced patient recruitment. Approximately 400 patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have undergone initial Fabry screening using dried blood spot (DBS) testing. No cases of patients with Fabry disease have been identified, however this is consistent with the expected diagnosis rate of 0.2%, which predicts only a handful of cases from the planned screening of 3,000 patients with CKD.

In early 2018, governance approval was also received for Toowoomba, with initiation of this service completed in March. Site recruitment is planned to commence in April. Further hospitals (Mackay, Gold Coast and Hervey Bay) are in the process of governance review, making the study well in hand to meet expected timelines and patient recruitment targets.
