The 2017 Forum of Australia's First Centre of Research Excellence in Chronic Kidney Disease

30 Aug 2017

Australia’s first Centre of Research Excellence for CKD was established in late 2014, with five-year funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council.

Known as the NHMRC CKD.CRE, the Centre is based at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital campus and headed by Professor Wendy Hoy from the University of Queensland, in collaboration with Queensland Health and researchers and institutions from across the country.

The CRE research themes are focused on CKD surveillance, practice improvement, biomarker research and health economics.

Now mid-way through its 5 year program, the CRE hosted a half day forum on Wednesday the 23rd of August, 2017, in the RBWH Education Centre.

The forum was geared to provide an overview of CRE outcomes to date, with Prof David Harris, President of the International Society of Nephrology and Chair of the CRE Consultation and Engagement Committee, speaking on “Global directions of CKD surveillance and the role of ISN”.
